Why Start a Club?
SHS has a wide variety of clubs on campus that cover a broad range of activities and interests. The list of over forty clubs can be seen on the main Clubs page. However, every year many students come to the ASB seeking to start their own club. This page will help clarify the process of starting a club. Please bear in mind that starting a club is for students who are truly passionate about bringing together like-minded individuals, it is not something to simply add to a resume.
How to Start a Club
1) Email Clubs Commissioners Allison Lin ([email protected]) or Meera Rachamallu ([email protected]) with your new club idea.
2) Obtain the signatures of 15-20 potential members, fill out the club application form, and find a teacher or administrator to be the club advisor and provide a location for your meetings.
3) Contact Allison ([email protected]) or Meera ([email protected]) to schedule a Monday lunch meeting with the ASB officers.
4) Present your club proposal to the ASB officers. Bring your application packet and present a 1-2 minute speech about your club. Be prepared to answer questions about the purpose and scope of your club. Only the club presidents need to attend this presentation.
5) If your club is approved by the ASB officers, you will then present to the general ASB at the Monday night meeting.
6) If your club is approved by a majority vote of the ASB, your club will be approved for a one-month trial. You may now start holding club meetings/fundraisers/activities. The ASB will periodically check in with you at your club meetings for the first month to ensure that your meetings are productive. Please make sure that you turn in club minutes at the end of the trial; clubs that fail to do so will be immediately cut.
7) After the trial, you will be approved as an official SHS club, congratulations! You may now turn in club minutes at the end of every grading period.
8) Fill out the online registration form under the "For Current Clubs" tab below so that the ASB will have your club on record.
